• I am feeling sad/angry/depressed/overwhelmed after a significant loss. Is this normal? +

    It is absolutely normal to not feel like yourself after the death of a loved one.  Someone very special is now missing from your life.  Experiencing intense emotions or even feeling physically drained is not out of the ordinary. Be gentle with yourself and focus on getting the care that you and your family needs.  Generally the intense feelings will naturally recede given time and reflection.   Individuals experiencing persistent deep or complex feelings or the presence of additional stressors may benefit from professional guidance.  Many individuals have also found sharing in a facilitated group setting, learning from others that are experiencing their own grief journey promotes the grief work towards reinvesting.  It is important to remember that you are not alone; The Chesapeake Life Center team is here to help you through your grief.

  • Does Chesapeake Life Center only serve families who received Hospice of the Chesapeake care for their loved one? +

    No, Chesapeake Life Center is here to help all members of the community regardless of whether they have a previous relationship with our hospice program. 

  • What are the costs of service? +

    Chesapeake Life Center support groups and short term grief counseling (up to 10 counseling sessions) are available to Hospice of the Chesapeake families for up to thirteen months after the death of a loved one at no charge.  Please refer to program schedule for specialty program fees.  

    For members of the community whose loved one was not under Hospice of the Chesapeake care there is a $60 fee for the initial one-hour counseling session. The fee for subsequent sessions is determined using a sliding fee scale.

    -Six week support groups $60
    -Eight week support groups $80
    -Drop- in groups are $10 per session

  • Is any care I receive from the Chesapeake Life Center covered under my insurance? +

    We will readily provide you with an invoice to submit to your insurance or health savings plan, but we do not bill or participate with any insurance plans directly.  We recommend individuals speak directly to their health care provider.
